Fifty American workers clash with about 150 foreigners in Tubetown. Police arrive late as fights leave dozens injured including broken noses ribs and bruises. An initial fatality claim proves unfounded after an ambulance visit finds the man alive.
In court here Saturday a settlement was reached in three cases brought by Edith M. Fields, George Smith, and Jennie T. Hanlen against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Damages sought totaled $140,000 for the killing of three relatives in a Ribold cutoff wreck when a B and O freight train struck cars left on the main track. The settlement amount is not public, but is said to total about $20,000 per case.
General Secretary George Fe. Burgess of the Y M C A writes to Bert Wells thanking the New Castle News for extensive coverage of a recent member ship campaign. He praises the large front page announcement and illustrations and expresses personal gratitude.
Refugees in the Gobel case believe they have a chance as Gov elect Willson takes office and pledges a fair trial. The report notes Taylor will stand trial in Kentucky with Willson addressing the proceedings.
The United States Supreme Court ruled the greater Pittsburg law constitutional. Justice Moody delivered the opinion rejecting the claim that uniting Pittsburg and Allegheny violated contracts, stating if property was taken without due process the loss should be charged to the legislators.
Word reached relatives of J S White formerly of Hickory township county who died Friday night at Swift near Mobile Alabama. He was in usual health on Wednesday of last week and died suddenly. He leaves two brothers Robert and John S White in Slipperyrock township and was father of Carrie White whose death occurred last spring in Swift Alabama. His remains will be brought here for burial with arrangements handled by an undertaker in Mobile. A German employee at Lehigh Portland Cement Works broke his left arm in two places Saturday when clothing caught in a shaft. He was taken to his Moravia Street home.
Dr. LeRoy Weller of Beaver College spoke at the First M. and M. church on government and trusts. He argued Roosevelt’s actions protected the people and exposed dishonest leaders of trusts. Congregant George Greer invited a public Q&A session to follow, and Weller agreed to return.
Philadelphia mother Mrs Besie Aditts grieves for her son Sergeant William H. Adsett hanged by the British in Hong Kong on November 13 for the murder of Miss Gertrude McKelvey of Youngstown Ohio. She pleads in letters for Washington help to recover the body so it may rest beside his father.
Willson says Taylor will receive a fair impartial trial and return to Kentucky. Taylor agrees Willson has the right view and would return only with a fair trial.
Indianapolis reports William S. Taylor and Charles Finley remain undecided on when they will return from exile in Indiana after Goebel's shooting. Taylor says he will go back but has no fixed date, not even the first of the year. Governor-elect Willson of Kentucky visited for a few hours.
Western Pennsylvania faces rain this evening with Tuesday showers or snow and cooler temperatures. Strong gusts and slick roads anticipated in the region as cold air moves in. Local officials urge caution for motorists and pedestrians tonight.
James Ciccarelli wanted in Black Hand cases was arrested in Youngstown by County Detective Logan with Police Chief McDowell and Patrolman Williams. He aided to come to New Castle without papers and is jailed awaiting December court, facing conspiracy and robbery charges. He led the Black Hand in Hillsville Peanut quarry operations and planned to depart for Italy Monday.
Mrs Alice Reebel remains in the county jail awaiting trial for murder of her uncle Ernest Bauman. She is now alone in the women’s ward for the first time since arrest, spending time reading and doing fancy work while relatives visit occasionally.

Mr Rearke, a New Castle veteran of 27 years, proposes a mayoral bid built on American citizenship and fair dealing. He ran a meat market and partner in meat and grocery ventures, pledging close contact with city affairs, enforcement of ordinances, and cooperation with council to remedy existing evils.

James S. Young of Campbell & Young, contractors and builders, declares his bid for mayor after weeks of citywide push. A Sixth Ward resident at 62 Smithfield Street, he has lived in the same house 27 years and worked as a carpenter before a 12 year contracting partnership with Willis Campbell. He previously belonged to the Carpenters' union.
A Sunday night crash near New Wilmington involved Mr and Mrs W J Elton their child and a young woman neighbor. The auto hit their carriage causing it to shatter. The occupants were treated at home. the auto party's identities were kept secret in exchange for damages. Carr fractured his right femur after slipping on ice then was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Robert M. Hainer of the Fourth ward announces his candidacy for city treasurer in February. A well known local businessman he has worked in the drug trade for 21 years and has been with Geo. W. Clutton on Washington street for 15 years.
Washington news notes Hainer born 1867 in Washington Pa. and resident of New Castle since 1880. He studied pharmacy and business, active Epworth church member, and pledges competent service and community welfare if elected to the office.

George Vanus, 13, charged by Frank Paglia with larceny of two watches and several rings, was discharged by Alderman Mayne on Saturday as property had been recovered and Paglis was ready to close the incident with a reprimand for the boy.
