Moonshine operation seized in Scott Township raids
U S Treasury agents and state police arrested George Dillon 58 of New Castle RD 4 and two Youngstown men in Scott Township and Ohio for moonshine activity. They seized a 360 gallon still 1625 pounds of sugar 400 gallons of mash 100 pounds of yeast and 300 pounds of rye and grain plus 98 gallons of moonshine at the still and 12 gallons at a Youngstown home. Dillon arraigned and freed on bond with case to federal court a grand jury to hear in January Showers and Beverly released on bond with hearings set for November 25 on charges of possession and transportation of untaxed liquor. Ohio agents say Beverly carried moonshine across the state line. State Police and troopers led raids after two weeks of surveillance following tips.

City library board votes to close three branches
The New Castle Library Board voted to close Mahoningtown South Side and East Side branches by December 31. Beginning November 30 patrons may use facilities but cannot borrow books. Five employees will be laid off and the January payroll may be missed. The board plans drastic curtailment after January 31 to conserve remaining funds through May 1968.
