Lawrence County School Board advanced steps toward an area technical vocational high school. A 6:30 p.m. January 16 Mohawk High School convention will assess establishment with an advisory committee to guide needs. A $3,481 postwar fund will cover printing, consultants and travel costs.

Washington UPI report notes South Viet Nam faces a rocky path despite American aid as new regime officials, led by premier Nguyen Ngoc Tho, gain recognition. In a separate item, George Washington Junior High opens Legs Laughter with 50 cast members, 800 balloons, rehearsals, and show-stopping numbers planned for 8:30 p.m. tonight.
Premier Khrushchev, buoyed by Russia's anti-missile boast, predicts the Soviet Union will become the No 1 country by 1970. He spoke at a Kremlin gala marking the Bolshevik Revolution anniversary after a Red Square parade showing the missile.
A UPI survey of Republican leaders nationwide finds Nelson Rockefeller’s liberal image and his remarriage to a divorcee mother of four as key weaknesses. Leaders in 26 states say the remarriage hurts Rockefeller’s chances, with views varying on the long term impact.
John Hoye of Volant RD 2 was elected president of the 1964 Lawrence County Farm Show at a board meeting in the Courthouse, succeeding Oscar Riley who remains on the board. Wilbur McFarland was re elected vice president, J Francis Boak secretary, and James R Cox treasurer. Discussion included adding three more directors from commerce and industry and plans for new demonstrations at next year’s show. The board also noted a steam powered saw mill and suggested a horse powered hay baler and grain separator for 1964.
Prime Minister Sir Alec Douglas-Home captured the Perth seat with a 9 328 vote majority 14 147 to 4 819 over Duncan Millar of the Liberal party The result boosts Conservative hopes despite Labor gains elsewhere The report notes a separate incident of a woman injured at Reliable Luggage Inc in New Castle Hospital release.
Berlin reports a French army convoy of 50 soldiers in 10 vehicles passed Soviet checkpoints on the Berlin highway without dismounting. The move follows a earlier Soviet demand that allied troops dismount for counting, a rule Western Allies contest as they press for free access to Berlin.

Gov William Scranton hailed Pennsylvania’s election results as a grand slam for Republicans. He pointed to Superior Court wins, five more GOP county commissioners, Albert W. Johnson’s House win, gains in Democratic districts, and voter support for three constitutional amendments.
State Rep. Dominick E. Cioffi says he will fight a plan to redraw districts that would join Lawrence County with Butler County while Beaver County becomes its own district. He notes Lawrence shares industry and Ohio River issues with Mercer County and argues the GOP proposal strengthens party majorities in the affected areas.
A broad anti foreign aid coalition plans further attacks on the Senate bill, now at just over 3.7 billion dollars for one more year of military economic and technical assistance to friendly nations. The measure trails Kennedy’s request by 800 million while exceeding the House vote by 240 million. The Senate debates with over 40 amendments and a nine hour session added restric tions including bans on aid to Yugoslavia and Indonesia and limits on certain nations and fishing vessel issues. The aggressive push targets Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser regime according to backers.
