Kiriakou Receives Peacemaker Award in Sonoma County
New Castle native John Kiriakou is honored as 2014 Peacemaker of the Year by the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County. He is serving a 30 month sentence at FCI Loretto after pleading guilty to disclosing classified information about a CIA officer in 2012. He wrote that torture should not be tolerated and noted his whistleblowing stemmed from government actions in the name of security.

New stores, restaurants planned in Lawrence County
Several Lawrence County businesses plan growth with El Canelo moving to a new Ellwood Road site north of its former plaza location by the end of next week. The Mexican restaurant aims to boost street traffic, keep the same menu, and transfer its liquor license as it expands from its five year plaza location. Also planned is a Dollar General store mid January in West Pittsburg at Center Avenue and Ninth Street, a 9,100 square foot prototypical masonry building with 32 parking spaces and 10 to 12 workers.
