A two story residence on North Ashland Avenue caught fire resulting in the death of a four year old Yorkie belonging to a local family. Fire crews battled the blaze but could not save the pet. No human injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Wheatland Tube plant relocation will eliminate about 40 jobs as operations shift to a new site. Company officials say the move aims to consolidate production and reduce costs, with workers affected across several departments and bargaining units.

Westminster College broadcast students created Snuffelupagus II a vacuum truck robot and a video featured online. Borough officials say the original machine would have impressed Dr. Frankenstein as it was pieced together and dumped at a Pulaski Township site after decades of leaf handling changes in New Wilmington.
John S. Ricci, 60, of 1640 Mud Ridge Road, was sentenced by Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Thomas M. Piccione to six to 23 months in county jail followed by five years of probation. He must register as a sex offender for 10 years, provide status updates, and have no contact with the victim. He was ordered to pay prosecution and supervision costs.
Phillip Dialasandro, 46, of Boyles Avenue and Rapson Road, charged with robbery theft and receiving stolen property, was held for court by District Judge Scott McGrath after a First Choice Credit Union heist on September 4. Teller Lillian Charles testified the robber demanded money from two windows and fled with about $6000.
