First photo of Kohoutek comet released by Hale Observatories
Scientists await study of the Comet Kohoutek as Hale Observatories released the first photo showing the developing coma and a dusty tail. The image, captured Oct. 31 by Jesuit priest Martin McCarthy at Mt Palomar, came as NASA equipped a Lockheed C141 with a 36 inch mirror telescope for high altitude observations. The craft and telescope carry a $10 million price tag and promise four hours of observation at 40,000 feet.

Man Struck By Car Seriously Injured On Atlantic Avenue
Edson W. Bohn, 75, of 188 Front St, is in serious condition in Jameson Memorial Hospital after being struck by a northbound car on Atlantic Avenue at 5:56 pm yesterday. He suffered scalp lacerations, a deep scalp scrape, left ear scrapes, back pain, and chest tenderness. George T. Dudash, 55, of 212 Cherry St, said he saw a vehicle headlights dazzle him, heard a thump, and saw a person fall into his car after the collision. Bohn reportedly crosses the same spot nightly and was carrying a hog with bread at the time.
