A collision between two lake freighters the Senator and the Marquette sent one vessel to the bottom. Twenty eight crew members were in the water with eighteen rescued. The Marquette limped into Milwaukee harbor with a large hole in its bow as search teams scoured Lake Michigan for the missing.
Garl L. Wallace of the city police, at 416 Martin Street, is hospitalized in New Castle with shotgun wounds from a hunting accident on Burton Fowder Company land in Mahoning township. George Shaffer of North Beaver township says he aimed at a rabbit when the incident occurred. Wallace, the first hunting casualty in Lawrence County for 1929, has about sixty No 5 shot embedded in his back and shoulders and may have stomach wall punctures. He is expected to recover after treatment. He and companions Fred Wallace and William McCune had been rabbit hunting and had the limit when the shooting happened.

Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald returned to England after a successful peace mission to the United States. He boarded a special train to London at 6 45 a m with his daughter Ishbel and was greeted by huge crowds along the route. He appeared well though he complained of neuritis in his right arm.
International News Services reports the 19th hole at Youngstown Country Club Mahoning County is banned for liquor. Members received notice forbidding alcohol inside the club house and employees found supplying it will be discharged.
Wall Street workers began clearing up after the most turbulent week in history as the New York Stock Exchange and the Curb Exchange remained closed through the weekend and would reopen next Monday.
At Allport Mines crossing near Johnstown two men, Charles Resetar age 20 and John Christoff age 21, were struck and killed by a freight train this morning. Train crew could not identify them, and their mangled bodies were sent to a morgue ahead of a coroner’s inquest.
Labor Secretary James J. Davis, mentioned as a possible Pennsylvania governor candidate, publicly stated his position on the 18th Amendment during a Cathedral address to the State Conference of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The reply emerged near the end of his prepared remarks when asked by an audience member.
A drizzle did little to dampen New Castle’s annual Hallowe en celebration as nearly 2000 spectators packed the downtown area. The parade began from the American Legion Home on Worth Jefferson Street, led by Chief Marshal Ivor V. Davis, and proceeded a few miles before eight o clock despite the wet conditions. The event was a cooperative effort between the American Legion and the Better Business Bureau.

Secretary of Labor James J. Davis urged respect for law and clean elections during a speech to the Daughters of the American Revolution and about 1,000 New Castle residents in the Cathedral on October 31. Rev Daniel McLean Thorne aged 91 and longtime minister of the Unre Wanted Presbyterian church died at 261 Maple Avenue New Wilmington after a month illness. Born in New Wilmington in 1588 he was Westminster College class of 1864 charter member of Kappa Phi Lambda and last surviving member of 1 & members. He married Mary J Stephenson in 1867 and had four children who all preceded him in death. Last charge was in Thurin O and after retiring he moved to New Wilmington. Survived by his wife Mrs Mary J Stephenson Thorne. Services Monday at 2 pm at New Wilmington United Presbyterian Church. Interment Greenwood cemetery.
Albert B. Fall ex Secretary of the Interior was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $100,000 for taking a $100,000 bribe from E. L. Doheny after leasing the Elk Hills California oil fields. The judge indicated the term could be suspended on appeal plans.
