War veteran John O Reilly 26 waved a loaded .25 caliber pistol for over 30 minutes aboard a California Central Airlines plane carrying 29 passengers over central California before an emergency landing at Hammer Field Fresno. He was seized without a struggle by two deputy sheriffs and is to undergo psychiatric examination while jailed in Fresno County.
London May 29 The FBI plans lie detector tests for Dr Klaus Fuchs to assess reliability as an informant on Russia's spy ring. Agents resume questioning as MI 5 and agents Hugh Clegg and Robert Lamphere await his agreement without pressure at Wormwood Scrubs where he serves a 14 year term for delivering A bomb secrets to Russia.
Senate loyalty investigators reopen secret sessions on the Amerasia stolen document case by calling the 1945 FBI probe lead D. M. Ladd and then hearing Lou Nichols, assistant to J. Edgar Hoover, behind closed doors. The hearings follow a State Department claim that Senator McCarthy has not proven pro communist staff and is shifting focus.
James E. McGuire 37 of Butler drowns while trying to save his daughter Judith 10 after she slipped from a rock into Slippery Rock Creek Saturday evening about 7 45 p m. Judith was saved by Leonard Jones 22 who jumped in and brought her to shore. Police and Coroner Charles E. Allen investigated the drowning.
Joe Cecak, 60, of Bessemer, was found dead in a pool along a small stream feeding the Bessemer Limestone and Cement Co. reservoir. Neighbor Joseph Tonya found him at 7:45 am as he walked to work. Police Chief Frank Clark and Coroner Charles E. Allen investigated, believing Cecak slipped crossing a P and L E railroad trestle and struck his head on the spillway. drowning is suspected. An autopsy was performed this morning.

Six people were injured in a two-car collision at 4:55 p.m. Sunday on Route 108 in North Beaver township. Patients listed include Mrs. George Santin, 48, Toronto Ontario, possible neck and right arm fracture. George Santin, 51, with facial lacerations and burns. Norge J. Santin, 24, the driver, all treated at New Castle Hospital.
Memorial Day parade plans of the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department are complete led by Chief C J Ammons. Fifty fire companies from the tri state area will march at 4 PM from English and McClelland avenues along Route 224 Grandview Avenue West Washington Street extensions to Scotland Lane show grounds. A mounted escort leads the marchers followed by the Union High School band Union fire truck and other equipment. The Newell West Virginia truck along with gear from Steubenville Ohio and Saegertown Pa will participate. The crack inauguration Navy is noted.
