The Banks Covered Bridge in Wilmington Township crosses Neshannock Creek and is owned by Lawrence County. Lone Pine Construction Co. Inc. of Bentleyville will rebuild it for 427460 dollars, replacing siding deck and roof and painting. Work began May 3 and the bridge remains closed to traffic with Gerber Road detour removed.
Russia envoy Viktor Chernomyrdin pressed ahead with a Belgrade mission after the Hague war crimes indictment to Milosevic and four aides. The UN charges accuse Milosevic of crimes against humanity for Kosovo ethnic Albanian abuses.
Chernomyrdin outlined a Russian plan to deploy NATO peacekeepers in Kosovo with some Serb forces remaining under neutral command to end the fighting. The proposal calls for NATO to lead the force, Albanian refugees’ return, and disarmament of the Kosovo Liberation Army while preserving security and communications.
Nicholas Kurch, 35, already jailed for four drunken driving arrests, received a 15 to 30 year sentence for vehicular homicide after killing Sujan Tuladkar and Dr. Alok Chalise of Kathmandu Nepal. He drove without a valid license on December 7, 1996, fled a bar, and lost control of a girlfriend’s van, crossing a divider and crashing. Prosecutor Dan Cuddy said there was no other option but to lock him up. Judge Robert Colville called the decision nearly the maximum under law and noted a lack of redeeming values in the file.
Richard Eidam, born January 30 1953 in Ireland and adopted to Joseph and Ann Eidam, learns his birth mother prayed for contact. Motivated by a 60 Minutes segment on newborns taken from unwed mothers in the 1940s and 50s, he pursues a phone call or visit she hoped for.
Richard Eidam recalls discovering his adoption records listing Elizabeth Johnston as his mother. Raised by the Eidams in Youngstown since 1955, he begins a search sparked by a New York Times article, hoping to learn about his origins and his mother in Wolverhampton, England.
