Pennsylvania Engineering buys 35 acres east of city for plant site

The Pennsylvania Engineering Co. purchased 35 acres near the Pull-More motor plant bounded by the Allegheny Western railroad Cascade street and Butler avenue to Melrose plot for 28 000 dollars about 500 dollars per acre including existing buildings. The land formerly belonged to Irish heirs Phoebe M Geddes Frizzell Henry McKissick James McCall R Trimbell Amanda M Hanna and Public Service Land Co A long term option was pursued under Manager E W Beadle with Clare P DuShane and George T Weingartner noted as active negotiators.

County surpasses quota in Red Cross drive in Lawrence county

Lawrence county totals for the Red Cross war fund exceed the 60 000 quota with subscriptions at 140 049 by ten this morning. Large gifts push the drive including 3000 from G W and C H Johnson for Pittsburg Limestone and Mahoning Limestone and 500 from the National Bank of Lawrence County.

Yankees Wear Down German Storm Troops In Picardy Clash

American lines repelled a three-pronged German assault near Picardy as Pershing’s troops held through heavy bombardment. GIs used grenades and bayonets to drive the attackers back, taking several prisoners as German shells and mustard gas rained on the front.

The fund and employer of the John son Bronze company contributed $360 and Big Beaver township added $627, bringing the district total to $1,227. Yesterday's Second ward report stood at $4,800. Other districts listed include Shenango Township $634 and Neshannock Township $28 and Pulaski with minor amounts, contributing to today's combined total.

Another Attempt To Raid Paris

Paris officials report that ten or twelve German aeroplanes failed to reach the city last night. Several bombs fell in outlying districts while the city proper remained untouched. The danger signal sounded at 10 40 a m and the all clear followed at 11 45 o'clock.
