Four Westminster graduates receive the annual achievement awards at a noon luncheon on June 5. Recipients include Rev. and Mrs. D. Rayburn Campbell 1924 Dr Daniel Phythyon 1914 and Pr Irvin G Wyllie 1941. The Campbells joint award marks the first time a husband wife team has won since 1955.

Baseball fan kills umpire in Houston
Willis Harris, 59, was shot three times by a spectator during a semi pro game after an argument with another fan. Umpire Ernest Nathaniel Coleman died, Harris was later treated and listed in satisfactory condition, then improved slightly as he remained under guard.

Johnson strolls through Washington halting rush hour
President Johnson halted traffic during an unplanned walk across Pennsylvania Avenue to view the Court of Claims Building with Dr Dillon Ripley and Douglass Cater. John P. Peluso Sr., 73, partner in Elliott Brothers Steel Co., died after admission to Cleveland Clinic. Born January 24, 1892 in Piedimonte, Italy, he came to the United States at 16 and lived in New Castle. Humane slaughter bill advances from Harrisburg committee
The Pennsylvania House Agriculture Committee approved a state humane slaughter bill that would require slaughterers packers and stockyard operators to render animals insensible to pain using chemical electrical or mechanical methods and would impose fines for violations. Exemptions apply to Kosher and other religious slaughterers with the measure set to take effect one year after enactment.
