Adjt. Gen. Emil F. Marx dispatched two Ohio national guard officers to Youngstown and Canton to observe the Republic Steel and Youngstown Sheet & Tube strike plants. Maj. Gen. Gilson D. Light will monitor Youngstown with Lt. Col. Wade C. Christy and Capt. Joseph Parilla. Col. E. P. Lawlor will oversee Canton. Reports will be sent to Columbus. no outside requests were made. Post Office Safe Blasted Open at Grampian Pa

A safe at the Grampian Pennsylvania post office was blast opened by robbers early today. Loss reported totals 500 dollars in stamps 78 dollars in cash and 1785 50 dollars in non negotiable baby bonds. Big Fire Rages South Of Kane

A massive gas field fire near Lamont, four miles south of Kane Pennsylvania, threatened widespread damage to gas properties and the village. Although burning through the night, officials said the blaze was under control at noon with damage estimated at fifty thousand dollars. Lightning struck pipelines on the Natural Gas Station property, sending flames 150 feet high and visible for miles as Kane and Oil City fire crews fought the blaze.

Vote On Relief Fund Nearing Senate Action

Washington May 27 The House revolt against granting a 1.5 billion relief fund intensified as leaders prepared for decisive votes in the Senate. The House reversed an earmark of 505 million for flood control highways and PWA projects but will reexamine the plan next week. Rep Rayburn Democrats plan roll call votes to strike earmarks. WPA chief Hopkins warned the agency would cut 1.2 million from its rolls if earmarks stay.

Move To Adjourn Congress Session In July

Washington May 27 Administration leaders moved to adjourn Congress in July postponing action on President Roosevelt court bill until next winter. They expect little chance of presidential approval and fear an all summer fight in Washington. The plan aims for a peaceful solution as more justices may retire, giving Roosevelt a chance to appoint liberal replacements.

Start Work On River Project Near Cherry Street Bridge

Work has begun on the Shenango river dredging near Cherry Street Bridge as a large clam shell bucket removes earth and stone. The WPA project, funded by Lawrence County with local materials, aims for about $60,000 overall and will rip rap the river bank to protect abutments and widen the channel to divert floodwaters away from the bridge.
