The Post Office Department designates this week to urge patrons on rural and city motor routes to inspect and improve their mail boxes. Postmaster Francis J Augustine says neat boxes protect mail from weather, improve appearance, and are safely located. He offers questions on doors, flags, waterproofing, secure mounting, rust protection, approach grade, name, and height.

Landfill study begins in Pennsylvania counties
Harrisburg UPI reports the state Health Department will finish a study by late summer to see if sanitary landfills in strip mines contaminate water. Borings at Washington and Westmoreland sites are done, Tamaqua and North Mountain are in progress, with a fifth site to be chosen. About 100 water samples will be collected at each site for analysis.

Hackworth's battalion lost four men wounded as 134 Viet Cong were killed in a two day Mekong Delta fight.
