Five judge hopefuls survive historic county primary
In Lawrence County, five candidates won nominations for three judges seats on one ticket. Deborah A. Shaw swept both party ballots becoming the first woman nominated for a judge seat. Olson, Manolis, Flannery and Keith also won nominations with varied totals as seven lawyers vied in the cross-filed race.

OConnor defeats Pittsburgh mayor in Democratic primary
Allegheny County controller Corey OConnor ousted Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey in the Democratic primary Tuesday, threatening a November general election victory in a city that hasn’t elected a Republican mayor in nearly a century. OConnor, son of a former mayor, had the party’s endorsement while accusing Gainey of poor finances and housing and safety shortcomings.

Turnout Slow in Local-Heavy Primary Night
Voters turned out at about 26.69 percent as final precincts posted ballots. Lawrence County Elections Director Tim Germani predicted 27 percent and noted turnout fell short of the 2021 presidential-year level of 29.6 percent and the spring 28.23 percent.

Four council candidates advance in city primary race
Democrat David Esposito led the four-year race with 927 votes followed by David Ward 858 and Eric Ritter 780 while Eddie Bogaert 708 was eliminated. Republican Eric Francis 754 advanced as the lone GOP nominee. Write-ins totaled 46 for four-year Dems and 24 for the two-year term with 107 Republican write-ins for the four-year term.
