Groundbreaking held at Jameson Hospital

Groundbreaking ceremonies marked the start of Jameson Memorial Hospital's 17.5 million construction and renovation program. Hospital president Thomas White, Dr Eugene Isidro, and board chairman John W. Sant turned over the first shovelsful. The event drew about 300 officials, staff, students, and St. Francis Hospital representatives including Joseph Noviello and Sister Germaine Walter. The plan follows a joint health care strategy with St. Francis and aims to avoid duplication while serving the community. final state health department approval was received in December. Record 23.7 percent rise in basic necessities inflation

Horchler Plans Sabbatical and Retirement from New Castle School

New Castle School Superintendent Russell L. Horchler expects to request a sabbatical leave of absence for 1980-81 with retirement to follow. His 14-year tenure would end June 30, pending formal board action at Friday's budget meeting. Board President George Gregg noted Horchler discussed the move but did not cite budget issues as a factor.

Judge drops charges against PUC employees in payoff case

An Allegheny County judge dismissed bribery conspiracy theft by extortion and tampering with public records charges against James Rainey and two other Western Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission employees accused of taking protection payoffs from trucking firms at a hearing yesterday Judge Robert Dauer presided over the case in New Castle Rainey resided at 1610 Delaware Ave.

Commissioners consider suit over federal aid discrimination

Lawrence County commissioners plan to file a federal lawsuit alleging the government favors economically disadvantaged families in aid programs. Library program to upgrade reading skills for adults
