Amicus House Aims To Help Abusers Through Counseling
Amicus House director Hebert Wayne told about 50 Lawrence County Council of Community Services members that the halfway house at 1002 State Street has been operational two months with six residents and could house up to 15 in a year. The program emphasizes rational motive therapy, individual and family counseling, and daily tasks. Residents pay something toward their keep. a 12 to 18 percent recovery rate is aimed for. Violations trigger a 30 day absence with possible readmission, and staff will help find placement at the City Rescue Mission or Salvation Army. Funding comes from a Governor’s Council on Drug Abuse grant. The group discussed human resources and a June 1 meeting relocation to LAHK Workshop.
