President Eisenhower urged Congress to approve a 3.865 billion dollar foreign aid appropriation for the 1958 fiscal year. He warned it would be folly to halt the program and noted his request was trimmed from 4.4 billion, urging tax cuts not to come at the expense of aid.

Seven year old Benny Hooper emerges from an oxygen tent in Manorville New York after nearly 24 hours trapped at the bottom of a foot wide well shaft. Dr J H Kris said a minor lung inflammation has cleared and Benny may leave the hospital by weekend. His temperature rose to 102 degrees Saturday but was normal by Monday.
The Stillwater Oklahoma area flooded when a dam at Lake Sanborn burst. About 2,000 residents were evacuated from low areas, including Oklahoma A. and M. University campus. No deaths or injuries were reported. National Guard aided evacuees as water spread through the city of roughly 31,000 people.
Lt. Gov. Roy E. Furman of Pennsylvania told northwestern tier civic leaders he was impressed by available industrial sites after touring counties. He urged better highways and airport facilities to attract industry and noted a proposed Erie to south route linking with West Virginia. local officials and GNCA leaders hosted the visit in New Castle.
AFL-CIO leaders agenda includes new rules to protect union funds from abuses linked to Dave Beck and to guarantee democratic procedures within unions. The Exective Council, after dropping Beck as AFL-CIO vice president, focuses on anti corruption projects and rule making.
A Monday crash on the DuPont Highway near Odessa killed six people from New York including Mr and Mrs Cleveland Outlaw and their three children Shir ley 3 and twins Cleveland Jr and Clang 5 months and an adult Mrs Isaih Phillips. One surviving child remained hospitalized in Wilmington Delaware Hospital. police called it the worst Delaware mobile accident since 1948.
A royal visit to the United States may be made by Princess Margaret or the Queen Mother in place of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip this year. Officials say talks are ongoing but not at the Macmillan Eisenhower level. The Queen and her husband are expected to visit the U S next year, with the White House inviting the Queen to visit anytime.

A strong quake rocked Tokyo at 8 30 p m local time lasting several seconds. Tall buildings swayed as people evacuated and officials reported no major damage. President Eisenhower and Mrs Eisenhower attended a cabinet dinner Monday night hosted by Postmaster General Sommerfield at the Sheraton Park Hotel.
Three Europeans were killed and 10 wounded in a sneak attack by Algerian rebels on a market town off Saida Monday night, according to reports.
County commissioners named Miss Ann Stevas as chief clerk to replace James Gilfillan who resigned. Stevas has served as secretary to the commission and solicitor since 1948, with Reba Cameron becoming the new secretary to Stevas and Mary Kay Murphy taking Cameron’s duties. The changes were proposed by Commissioner Edward E. Conahy and approved by the Board despite one abstention. Commissioner Ida Gilmore was notified her deputy clerk position would end May 31.
Voters in 13 districts in New Castle and Lawrence County must use corrected polling places. The county supplied the updated list after changes since the last election, affecting districts across New Castle, Ellwood City, North Beaver, Taylor, Union, Wayne, Spruce and other townships and boroughs.
