The final presidential preference primary result shifts odds toward Governor Landon in the Republican race. New Jersey’s vote discourages anti Landon forces who hoped Borah would win or that Landon would falter after California chose an uninstructed delegation.
City council authorized Engineer Glenn R. Throop to travel to Harrisburg and Washington to accelerate the New Castle airport project. The merchants division of the chamber of commerce offered to cover travel expenses for a councilman to accompany him.
Mrs Charlotte Shelby mother of Mary Miles Minter sues a Pasadena brokerage to recover 200000 saying the firm is liable for shortages caused by former employee Leslie B Henry who is now in prison. Mary Miles Minter, once a movie star, is shown with her mother in Los Angeles court.
Postmaster Richard A. Steen, representing about 70 postmasters from Lawrence, Mercer and Butler counties, travels to Erie Saturday to hear Washington representatives outline how the government will promptly handle veterans adjusted service bonds in June. He will relay instructions at a May 25 New Castle meeting in the Civil Service room of the Federal building.
The City of New Castle will acquire the old post office building at East North and North Mercer for a public library. The U S Treasury Department accepted terms set by the Free Public Library board at a price of 31 650 after months of negotiation. The contract awaits city council approval.

J Edgar Hoover, chief of the federal G men, told the closing session of the 30th annual convention of the boys clubs of America that organized gangsterdom is on its way out. He said gangsters are becoming viewed as public rats by the American public.
Eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania leaders gather at The Castleton for the first semi annual regional planning meeting. The program includes luncheon, remarks by John D. Adams, a round table discussion, golf at New Castle Field Club, and a 6:30 dinner with Col. John B. Reynolds and Don McCole as after dinner speakers. Mayor Charles E. McGrath and L. G. Genkinger welcome the visitors.

Albany May 21 Attorney General John J. Bennett Jr. surged to the lead as the likely Democratic candidate after Governor Lehman said he will not seek a third term. Despite Jackson backed by Roosevelt and Farley, Bennett and allies push for widespread support while Lehman supporters fret and consider drafting him at the September state convention.
Edwin E McConahy aged 32 of 632 South Mill died at Jameson Memorial hospital at 6 05 Thursday evening from injuries received when his motorcycle struck Albert Pillifant’s legally parked car at 1024 Hazen Street in front of the Legion Home North Jefferson and Falls. Coroner Orville Potter investigated but no blame was attached to Pillifant. It is believed McConahy failed to notice the parked machine and was hurled to the ground.
Italy presses for withdrawal of the extra British and French troops sent to Addis Ababa at the start of the Italo Ethiopian war. The Italian government has informally told Britain and France it would appreciate pulling out troops from Addis Ababa, now under Italian control, where they guarded legations.
Ernest Cameron, president of the Senior Class at Scott Township high school, Harlansburg, will end his school career when he graduates next Monday evening with a perfect attendance record. He has never been absent, attended McFarland school, finished the eight year course in seven, and is 17 at graduation. He is the son of Mr and Mrs J O Cameron of Harlansburg road and serves as class president and a member of the school orchestra.
Hollywood reports Ann Harding will proceed with a planned England trip for film work. She recently won full custody of her 7 7 year old daughter. Harry Bannister filed for partial custody in Reno Nevada. California courts granted permission for the travel.
Britain vows to defend Egypt and Palestine amid renewed Italian threats after Mussolini’s Ethiopian annexation. Foreign office reports a missing British nurse L J Bonner from the Ethiopian campaign, feared executed. Marshal Badoglio recalled to Rome to oversee potential large Italian force.
Claude Beavers, a leader in a convict gang that seized hostages, killed a guard and wounded another during a ten day breakout from the Oklahoma state prison, was recaptured and placed in solitary confinement at McAlester. He was found in a mountain hideout 35 miles southeast, while two other fugitives remain at large as a 50 man posse scours the area.
In Pittsburgh on May 21, Matthew Peters aged 28 and Bernard Dempsey aged 23 faced federal charges for offering counterfeit rubber five and ten dollar notes on a street corner. Investigators said the plates could produce real money, making the printing a federal offense. They were placed on two years probation and fined costs.
Dr. Harry H. Rosenthal aged 43 of the Greer building died at Jameson Memorial hospital at 6:30 this morning after a year long illness. An optometrist and past commander of Perry S. Gaston Post American Legion New Castle, he served in World War I and rose to hospital sergeant, senior grade. He helped the Legion grow its membership and contributed to veterans rehabilitation methods. He had been hospitalized in Mt Alto before two months at Jameson. He enlisted June 17, 1917 and was discharged May 10, 1919, with ties to noted oculist Dr. L. A. Schwenitz of Philadelphia and Cleveland.
Edwin Everette McConahy aged 32 of 63 South Mill Street is reported deceased. Donna Jean Fobes age 3 months of Neshannock Township is listed as deceased. Dr Harry H Rosenthal aged 43 of the Greer building is also noted as deceased.
The South Side Board of Trade delegation learned the city intends to widen deepen and improve 3300 feet of Big Run Creek from the Big Run Shenango junction to the turn in Pennsylvania The project approved by the Water Power Resource Board in Harrisburg calls for slope walls a 65 foot width and nine foot depth Work may start within two months and the method—contract or WPA—was not decided.
