City Senate Contest yields close New Castle results
In New Castle a brisk city race for the senate saw James Davis lead by 81 votes with 2373 to Grundy 2492 while Bohlen 1499 and Garfield Drew 92 also listed. Gifford Pinchot led the gubernatorial race citywide with 2814 as Phillips 2526 Brown 1452 and Herben 33. Swick's 4608 topped McCray 1214 and Shoemaker 464 as Armstrong led the city voters ahead of the rest. Continued on page two.

District Attorney Otto Herbst expects to finish the case with expert testimony including R E Lee Allegheny College chemist to challenge the defense claim that the blaze started from an exploding cleaning fluid.

Horace A. Rugh longtime New Castle entrepreneur died at his home 413 N Jefferson at 9 20 p m after a lengthy illness. Born in Greensburg son of Dr Jacob Welty and Rebecca Gilchrist Rugh he worked on a western cattle ranch before returning to Latrobe Greensburg then New Castle in 1900. He bought the Treser Ice Plant on West Grant and organized the Lawrence Ice and Storage Company where he served as manager at his death. He was a member of the New Castle Consistory and the Chamber of Commerce.
