London May 21 England's Tory government faces a deep crisis after Premier Andrew Bonar Law resigns after seven months in office. The party is split and parliament threatens violent dissensions over Russian policy. The new leadership choice remains unstated as the king contemplates succession.
Mayor Fred L. Rentz indicated a potential police vacancy and directed City Clerk C Ed Brown to obtain a list of men eligible for appointment. He asked the president of the civil service board to furnish the list.

Bids were opened this morning by the council for the Cascade Street sanitary sewer from Beatty Street south. The city engineer’s estimate was 2293.00. Two bids were Thorson and Elder 2635.40 and Sewer Construction Company 4049.00. Bids were referred to the city engineer for checking.
John Markovitch of 1019 Ashland avenue reported to police Sunday night that he had been robbed on Moravia street. Officers Horner and Syling found him intoxicated and saying he would recognize the robbers. He was advised to sober up and file a complaint. Officer Mike Connor was reported off duty due to illness.
Wayne R Wheeler of the Anti-Saloon League condemned New York state repeal of its prohibition code as moral cowardice and nullification of the 18th amendment. He spoke to Baptist ministers, arguing states must honor constitutional obligations and not repudiate their duties, a stance he called more vital than enacting the 18th amendment.
County commissioners received the centenary for the Gardner Avenue Viaduct, signed by Independent Bridge Co. with a bond of 369,490 for faithful performance. A contract for Mt Jackson Enon Road by Gargeyenburg Construction Co. was also received with a bond to the state highway department. Work on both projects to begin soon.
Financial and building committees of Central Christian church meet this evening to finalize details of the $10,000 remodeling plan voted weeks ago. The meeting aims to authorize start of work and add several additional classrooms.

The auditor believes a large portion of a 2.9 million dollar appropriation could be lapsed without harming state credit or efficiency. his forthcoming two year revenue forecast may show reduced revenues.
