Fire Pension Case Continued In City Hearings

Judge John S Powers paused proceedings in the fire pension case until May 29 for a hearing on a preliminary injunction to stop the city from paying more than half of 16620.03 in state fire insurance tax receipts to the volunteer firemen's pension fund. The continuance was granted on a motion by Joseph F McFate solicitor for the Volunteer Firemen's Ticket Assn and concurred by Robert B same son assistant city solicitor. Frank C Maratti, representing the past firemen, will file an appearance and seek dismissal as volunteers are recognized as a firefighting unit and not entitled to any share.

Edward W Haydon Dies In Florida

Edward W Haydon died Saturday in Florida after a lingering illness. Born in New Castle on November 41, 1978 he was the son of Edward and Jane Haydon. Active in Beaver County politics he served as postmaster of Midland Pennsylvania from 1934 to 1954. He leaves his wife Kate Weary Haydon a daughter Mrs Margaret Gray of Boston two grandchildren and one great grandchild. A brother John Haydon of Los Angeles survives. Funeral services will be held in Clermont this afternoon.

Willam Johnston Dies in Florida at 92

Glenn W. Johnston of B44 Rose Stop Rd reports the death of his father William Johnston 92 of Clearwater Florida after living with his daughter Mrs Donald Harkett. He had lived in Florida six years and was formerly of Worth Two Buller County where he worked as an oil well contractor. He was a Baptist and survived by his son Glenn, daughter in Clearwater, four grandchildren and eight sisters incl Mrs Elizabeth Small of Los Angeles. Funeral services and burial in Clearwater Wednesday with relatives planning to attend.

Textron to acquire Pittsburgh Steel Foundry firm

Textron Inc. agreed to buy Pittsburgh Steel Foundry for 13.50 a share, valuing the 957,251 shares at about 5.34 million dollars. The deal, announced Sunday, is subject to stockholder approvals and the usual corporate action, with Royal Little and Gr David Thompson making the announcements.

Talks Scheduled in Resistor Strike ENTE Pa

Officials of the Eve Resistor Corp were scheduled to meet with union representatives today in an effort to end a 48 day strike. The session marks another in a series between the firm and Local 813 United Electrical Workers. The walkout began last April over a seniority dispute. More than 60 persons were idle.

Elderly Couple Dies Minutes Apart After Tragedy

Albertson police report an elderly couple Walter Fearns 80 and Beatrice Fearns 79 died within minutes of each other after Beatrice was found dead from a heart attack Sunday by Walter who collapsed and died four minutes later. They would have celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary next week.
