Five Sailors Die in Explosion Aboard Escort Carrier

Dowager Empress Sadako of Japan Dies at 66
Japan’s Dowager Empress Sadako, mother of Emperor Hirohito and widow of Emperor Taisho, died suddenly in Tokyo at 4:10 p.m. She was 66, born June 25, 1884, daughter of Prince Kujo, married to Crown Prince Yoshihito in 1900, who became Emperor Taisho in 1912. Hirohito and Empress Nagako went to her bedside shortly after.
