West Side renewal gets $300000 state pledge in New Castle
Lt Gov Mark Schweiker announced a 300000 state commitment from the Communities of Opportunity program to start West Side revitalization in New Castle. The city will match 300000 with 150000 from 1999 CDBG funds and 150000 from a 1998 bond issue. Phase I funds flow as work proceeds with future phases to demolish, renovate, build homes and create Riverview Commercial Park along the Shenango River.

The Neshannock Township School District named Dr Ronald J. Mento, current Duquesne City School District superintendent, as new superintendent at a starting salary of 92000.
