County may be without CETA youth program

Hospitals treat poison victims at Gaylord accident
Thirty six people treated and released from St. Francis Hospital after yesterday’s incident at Gaylord’s. Dr Ahmad Abu Ela said most had only minor surface symptoms from malathion exposure while four remained hospitalized for 24 hours. The disaster team coordinated care with about 50 involved, and hospital drills are conducted regularly. See HOSPITALS, page 5.

Gas or Fumes Sickens Shoppers at Gaylord's Store
Sixty one people were treated for exposure to toxic vapors after an insecticide spill at Gaylord's Discount Department Store on Ellwood Road. Four employees remained in satisfactory condition at St. Francis Hospital today. The spill occurred when display shelves collapsed, breaking 11 pint bottles of Ortho Malathion 50 Insect Spray and releasing fumes intensified by floor stripper.

Loan keeps Shenango China open in New Castle
A $1 million loan arranged by the Lawrence County Industrial Development Authority will save Shenango China Division with 895 jobs in New Castle. Anchor Hocking Corp plans to use the funds to buy equipment and build eight silica silos while contributing about $400,000 of its own money. The deal uses tax free financing via Northern Trust Corp with a 9.9 percent 10 year note.

City eyes 6.8 million plan to aid three areas
A 6.8 million program to restore three residential areas on the lower East Side lower North Hill and the West Side moves forward with combined public and private funds. City Hall hosted discussions with state and federal agency reps and local lenders as Nick Navarra says the concept was well received and could begin by late 1981. The plan sources include 3 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank 1.5 million from UDAG 1.5 million from Small Cities grants and 800000 from various programs.

Arrests for killings ruled valid
