A nearby airfield south of Foochow was captured as columns broke through northwest defenses and entered the city Friday night amid ongoing street fighting. reports add that Linchang, about 650 miles southeast of Hangchow and near Shanghai, was occupied as assaults continued in other sectors.
ELEVENTH AIR FORCE reports the May 11 clash at Kataoka naval base Shimushu island in the northern Kuriles produced the heaviest single day shipping score in almost two years. Four ships hit directly include a frigate two medium cargo ships and a freighter, with a 7 000 ton transport possibly damaged and two ships sunk. Liberators and Mitchells attacked surprised Japanese units along Kataoka to Kashiwabara, with heavy anti aircraft fire and one Mitchell explosion over the target.
London May 14 Prime Minister Winston Churchill vows to stay as Britain's leader at least until Japan victory and Europe fully secured. He warns against totalitarian police states in liberated Europe and seeks continued U S cooperation in postwar supervision. New York May 14 The Luxembourg radio said Reichsmarshal Hermann Goering the former No 2 Nazi and Luftwaffe chief now in American captivity will be the first Nazi leader to face trial before the allied commission for war crimes Charges against Goering by Czechoslovakia and Poland have been examined by the commission which has moved to bring him to trial as reported by the FCC
