Judge keeps tax reform on ballot in Philadelphia

Perjury charges filed for Secord in Iran-Contra case

Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard Secord faces a new nine count indictment accusing him of lying to congressional committees about profits from an arms enterprise aiding Iran and the Nicaraguan Contras. He previously faced six felony charges and is charged with obstruction of justice perjury and making false statements. The grand jury indictment was issued in Washington DC on April 7 and sealed to avoid prejudicing the North trial.

Jail staff face suspensions after escape

Lawrence County Jail warden Joseph F. Gregg announced disciplinary action against some corrections staff in connection with April 8 escapes. He plans to suspend at least three and will wait for a full investigative report before acting further as seven inmates fled, four remaining at large, including Terrence Sanchez, who was later arrested in Erie.

Sanchez sentenced to 11 to 22 years in prison

Terrance M. Sanchez, 41, was ordered by President Judge Glenn Mc Cracken Jr. to serve 11 to 22 years for rape and burglary. He was moved to Western Diagnostic and Classification Center in Pittsburgh with another inmate. He must pay costs of prosecution, with the sentence running consecutively to current terms.
