Mercer Pa May 12 Dr James A Biggins Mercer county coroner today planned an inquest into the deaths of seven persons killed in a traffic accident at Mercer last Friday night. Six persons were killed instantly when an automobile and truck collided at an intersection and the seventh victim died yesterday. Two other persons escaped serious injury.
In a late May communique London reports the loss of three British destroyers the Lively Kipling and Jackal in the eastern Mediterranean. Over 500 officers and sailors were saved as German dive bombers attacked four destroyers with heavy air strikes. The Lively sunk after hits, the Kipling and Jackal later went down with the Jackal sunk by friendly fire.
Two tire thefts occurred in the New Bedford district between midnight and 3:30 this morning. Ed Spangler of Hubbard road reported two rear wheels, a spare tire and tools stolen from his car in an unlocked garage. Dean Schreckengost of New Bedford said all four wheels and tires were taken from his car parked in his drive near the highway. State police are investigating.
Price Administrator Leon Henderson told Congress he had recommended wage freezing for the war’s duration. His testimony before the Ways and Means committee focused on inflation potential, leaving many lawmakers cool to the plan while emphasizing its explosive economic stakes.

A broken water main below Catherine Avenue behind Pulaski road disrupted service to North Hill East Side and South New Castle for about 30 minutes. Hawaiian sugar shipments to the United States greatly exceed expectations. Economist George Gordon Paton reports that in the first third of the year 198 582 tons were shipped, with 108 066 short tons of raw sugar sent in April. If the April pace holds, raw sugar from Hawaii could reach about a million tons this year, double official forecasts.
