Madrid Fires In FiveHour Artillery Duel Amid Civilian Toll

Loyalist and rebel artillery clashed for five hours in central Madrid with heavy civilian casualties. Loyalist planes halted the rebel guns at 10 am. Government reports say Toledo surrounded after a night battle as Morata de Tajuna and Jarama front actions continued. Mun do Obrero claims 80 of 500 refugees at the Peruvian consulate were arrested for espionage.

Presley N. Jones was elected president of the New Castle Junior Chamber of Commerce at The Castleton last night. W. Herbert Smith steps down June 1, with W. Howard Gilmore as vice president and L. J. Lewis and Arthur Lowman continuing as secretary and treasurer respectively. Five new directors include H. Gill Brown, A. Bruce Ewing, Daniel H. Treloar Jr., Gust Sanfilippo and Lou H. Patterson. Parking Meter Streets Named by City Officials

Mayor Charles E. McGrath announced streets where parking meters will be installed after agreements with the private firm are completed. The prospective meters will appear on Washington Street from Court to the Shenango River, Jefferson Street from Lawrence to North, Mercer Street from Lawrence to Mill, Mill Street between South Mill and North, East Street from East Washington to North, and North Street between North and Jefferson.

Fatal shooting of two local boys near Pollock school

Robert Harris 12 colored of 1514 Levine Way and Anthony Naples 10 colored of 71512 Mable Street were playing cowboy in a field east of Pollock school when a 32 caliber revolver fired. Harris died at New Castle hospital after being struck in the left cheek and brain. Naples took the pistol from his father’s dresser that morning before joining Harris after school.

Funeral Tonight For Crash Victims

Funeral services will be held in New York tonight for 23 of the 35 people killed when the Hindenburg exploded. The Lakehurst inquiry paused until tomorrow to allow officials and witnesses to attend the rites. Hamburg American liner Hamburg will sail with the bodies to Germany, and eulogies will be offered by the German ambassador, the Lakehurst commander, and the German consul general. Twenty six survivors in New York and New Jersey hospitals showed marked improvement.

Police aid released man from Wilmington road accident

M. H. Spiker of R. D. 3 was injured at about 4 a.m. when his car hit a pole on Walma Wilmington road. Police from New Castle and others freed him, sending him to Jameson Memorial hospital. Lieutenant Suber and patrolmen Golis and Smith assisted at the scene.
