Pennsylvania Labor and Industry Department reports 354,007 unemployed in mid April, a drop from March as warmer weather spurs construction and apparel hiring. The seasonally adjusted rate falls to 6.9 percent from 7.2, with unadjusted rates higher. National April rate cited as 6.9 percent.
Coroner reports a 19 year old man Donald Hendricks and 17 year old Sharon Siedale died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a parked car on Wildwood Road Hampton Township. They were found by Hendrick's uncle on a private road during the weekend in Allegheny County and Buller County.
In Indiana Pennsylvania a two year old boy Matthew Dightner died after playing with matches inside his mother's car at a junkyard. His five year old sister Michele was rescued unharmed by junkyard owner Lefty Wertheimer who suffered burns and was hospitalized. The mother Barbara Lightner received shock treatment and was released.
Spare parts are being flown from California for a new attempt Thursday to launch two Triple satellites from Cape Canaveral to handle thousands of simultaneous conversations and relay memory data while preventing jamming. The Titan IIC rocket delay followed a first-stage ignition flaw, marking the fourth launch from Cape Canaveral since 1971 with only one complete success.
