Commander Charles E Rosendahl testified at the Commerce Department inquiry into the Hindenburg disaster stating landing conditions were largely satisfactory and that lightning was occasional. He described weather delays and noted a ground crew of 231 at Lakehurst with messages urging a delay due to unsettled conditions.
Herbert J. O Laughlin of Chicago, a Hindenburg survivor, stopped in New Castle after the Lakehurst disaster on May 6. He describes the moment the airship exploded as flames engulfed the craft and passengers faced a harrowing escape.
W R Johnston a Chattanooga radio announcer files for divorce from Evelyn Gresham Johnston. The case centers on a possible affair involving Rudy Vallee who is cited as a minor factor in the dispute. James Scopacasa of Lowellville died after his car left the road and struck a tree on the highway to Union Limestone quarry near Edenburg. Six others were injured, two critically, as emergency crews rushed to the scene Saturday evening. Scopacasa died at Jameson Memorial Hospital early Sunday.
Mrs. Frank Nicolazzo aged 34, mother of seven, died of burns in Kane community hospital after a gas explosion in her 10 room house. The blast shattered windows and neighbors helped rescue the children. Coroner W. D. Allen of Bradford investigates the fire.

Hollywood actors returned to work after producers capitulated on pay raises for extras and bit players. The Screen Actors Guild threat ended at the zero hour, while the Craft union leaders insisted the craft strike remains underway. Charles Lessing signaled possible similar deals for technical groups.

Two thousand attended the Nazarene Pittsburgh District Assembly closing ceremony at the Cathedral auditorium. Twelve men were ordained to the ministry by Dr. J. B. Chapman as part of the weekend's proceedings. Conferring charges were C Warren Jones O L Benedum and Charles C Hanks.
King George and Queen Elizabeth led a coronation rehearsal as crowds watched from Westminster Abbey. Dukes Kent and Gloucester and the Archbishop of Canterbury joined the procession in robes while crown jewels remained absent, the regalia carried on cushions for Wednesday’s ceremony. Intermittent drizzle shaded the scene as visitors gathered for the event.
City council approved a trial parking meter system with no city cost. The winning company will install and run the meters, receiving 15 percent of receipts while 85 percent goes toward equipment costs. after repayment the city will own the system as it helps solve parking. The plan cites similar successes in Cleveland and New York.
CIO officials move to force signed contracts as SWOC workers at Jones & Laughlin, Youngstown Sheet & Tube, and Republic Steel vote to strike. Philip Murray to meet CIO leaders after Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Republic, and Weirton refuse deals. 7500 J&L workers vote to strike at 11 p.m. Wednesday if no agreement. Negotiations continue with independent companies.
New Castle mixed chorus tied for first with Youngstown in a Welsh language competition at Warren Ohio's eisteddfod. The male chorus earned second prize. Directors David W Rees and accompanist Edwin Lewis praised. About 30 singers performed Ar Lan'r Iorddonen Dedofn for top honors and $100 prize split with Youngstown.
An eight year old named Eugene Martin from Starr Route near Butler was crushed to death when a school bus backed over him at a Route 42 service station three miles west of Butler. His father C E Martin works as a foreman at Fretz Moon Tube Company in East Butler.
Weather forecaster W W S Brotzman warned of light frost tonight with possible heavy frost in exposed places. He advised covering all plants and growing plants for the night as tomorrow will be cloudy but warmer.
