Bus and car plunge from Sunshine Skyway Bridge tragedy
A 606-foot freighter struck the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay causing a bus from St. Petersburg to plunge into the water. At least 23 bus passengers and seven motorists died. divers found air in the bus, and none could escape to the safe section. Cars were also swept into the bay as the vessel rammed the span.

Pair indicted by jury on murder charges
The county grand jury indicted Michael Atkinson and Frank G Costal Jr on first and third degree murder charges in the deaths of Kathleen Kadance and her daughter Dawn. The women were found dead at their home on July 11, 1978. Costal, 51, was jailed on February 9 and Atkinson, 422 Franklin Ave Ellwood City, was jailed on February 11. Both have been in county jail since.

Lawrence County unemployment hits 10.4 percent in March
Lawrence County jobless rate climbs to 10.4 percent for March as 4,500 people are unemployed out of a 43,000 civilian labor force. County home strike haunts county officials
The Hill View Manor workers strike last January and February led to 128 residents being evacuated and cared for by public and private agencies.
