In Washington on May 6 Alice Longworth notes France faces a leftward surge and a choice between fascism and communism. She cites investor preference for British and Dutch securities and recalls past foreign financial crises before the New Deal.
Italian Marshal Pietro Badoglio announced from the Italian legation in Addis Ababa that Ethiopia is in Italian hands and pledged to promote peace and prosperity for the vanquished. He noted the Negus fled, praised the road reception, and described duties ahead as civilizing and arduous.

He spoke in a farewell interview as he prepared to move to Panama on May 10.
The dirigible Von Hindenburg, carrying 49 passengers and a large mail load, is set to depart from Friedrichshafen for Lakehurst New Jersey. The crew expects over 100 aboard, with takeoff delayed to tonight to allow last minute mail delivery. Mass will be celebrated in flight by Rev Father Paul Schulte with papal permission.
Harrisburg May 6 With only half its members present the house advanced its full calendar of bills including administration tax and transfer measures for unemployment relief and adjourned until next Monday night The session was unresponsive to Rep Miles Horst Lebanon chairman of the joint committee investigation relief costs and administration.

May 6 Boston authorities investigate a time bomb sent to Gov. James M. Curley. A special guard patrolled the executive mansion grounds while fingerprint experts and handwriting analysts examined the device and letters. Preliminary tests found no explosive in the Somerville postmark package, which was dropped into water by the governor.
A new attack on the American legation in Addis Ababa was repulsed by Italian troops. Sixty Italian infantry dispersed the rioters with heavy losses after bandits tried to breach the legation.
More than a thousand members of the American Legion and Auxiliary from the 26th district will attend a banquet at the Cathedral tomorrow at 6 30 pm in honor of National Commander Ray Murphy and visiting department officers. Judge W Walter Braham will be toastmaster as a short program and dance follow in the Cathedral auditorium and ballroom with guests from Scranton Smoketown and other states.
