The Navy publishes a nationwide tally of 6995 sailors Marines and Coast Guardsmen dead missing or wounded from Pearl Harbor to April 15. Dead 2991 missing 2495 wounded 907 with casualties from sea and air accidents included.
Gen Douglas MacArthur said UN fliers extended attacks to all Japanese bases in territories above Australia and bombed Gasmata on New Britain. Japanese losses included at least two planes over New Guinea, with several aircraft shot down during raids near Port Moresby and over New Guinea. Bombardments also continued at Corregidor, while Mindanao activity and a Rio Grande crossing near Cotabato were noted.
The report states Japan asserts Mandalay captured while no confirmation from Allied sources. Chinese reinforcements are reported moving to defend the China border as Lashio fell and fighting continues in Burma.

London reports a direct hit by a British coastal command aircraft on an Axis destroyer during an attack on enemy shipping off Norway. The rear gunner saw two bright flashes as bombs exploded and the destroyer swung 90 degrees before stopping, with smoke rising from the vessel.
Lieut. Peter Krug a 21 year old Nazi flying officer who escaped from a Canadian prison camp and passed through Detroit has been captured in San Antonio Texas. FBI chief John S Bugas announced Krug was taken into custody last night. Krug resisted lightly and did not reach for a pistol lying in the hotel room. Earlier in Detroit Max Stephan a 46 year old restaurant owner was arrested for harboring Krug and is held for trial.
Everett Harding was appointed by Defense Transportation Director Joseph B. Eastman as manager of the Philadelphia Field Office. His appointment, among nine others nationwide, raises the total number of authorized agencies to twenty five.
Washington reports that the United States and Great Britain oppose Gen Charles De Gaulle attempting to turn the Free French into a political regime with himself as head. They will not grant diplomatic recognition to such a move and may suspend aid if he persists. They want him to stay as military leader and limit activity to resistance against the Axis.
Federal agents raided 26 New Jersey communities late last night and early today under EF FE Conroy seizing contraband and a large bust of Mussolini. The operation collected enemy aliens into custody, with swift efficiency reported by authorities in Trenton.

Registration groups by name start letters to speed processing, with city offices open 1 to 9 p m and county offices 4 to 9 p m. The head of a household may register all members, and cards grant access to the allotted sugar amount.

Thirteen cows and a bull were found dead in their barn stanchions on the Joseph McKim farm in Mahoningtown Mt Jackson, Mt Airy area. Five cows survived, killing cause unknown but suspected electrical storm. Erie reported incident also notes a separate fatal crash of Harry R Schultz, 50, near Erie two hours after his car overturned.
A San Francisco to New York passenger plane crashed on a Salt Lake City peak near the Mormon Tabernacle killing seventeen people. Three Navy and Army officers and two civilian military experts were among the dead. a sole survivor was found unconscious in the wreckage. Continuation noted on page two.
