UPI report says US troops and supporting air power overran a North Vietnamese base in the Michelin Plantation area 45 miles northwest of Saigon. 38 NVA killed. eight Americans died and one wounded. Across Vietnam, several clashes, shelling of Saigon, and DMZ incidents marked a week-ending offensive.
Abilene Kansas residents recall Dwight D. Eisenhower as a boy and later president. Ronald Micaletti, 19, of 1916 Hamilton St was treated for face scrapes and released after his car hit a guard rail and caught fire near Gibsonia Pennsylvania. Vincent Busico of Pulaski Road 1 suffered head and leg pain in a two car collision on U S 422 in Coitsville Ohio. Busico and passenger Larry Biase were treated at Jameson Memorial Hospital and released. County Commissioners will act on a $10000 CHARGE Inc request at tomorrow's meeting, as county solicitor ruled funds cannot be allocated by law. CHARGE seeks $17000 from county city and Ellwood City to boost its budget. federal grant of $43000 has been awarded to the agency.
In Gettysburg Pennsylvania UPI reports residents gathered for a memorial service at Gettysburg College chapel honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower known as Ike by locals. Mayor Weaver recalled his modest nature and Mamie’s shopping trips in town while noting the Eagles’ home developed into a historic shrine.
The last statewide survey of property tax exemptions in Pennsylvania was in 1957, with experts noting growth since then. In New Castle 12 percent of total assessed valuation is exempt from taxation.

The Neshannock Township Planning and Zoning Commission will continue a hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance at 7:30 p.m. May 13. The hearing had been set for April 10 but was moved to allow more time to revise the ordinance. Copies will be on display at the township municipal building April 28 and may be examined during business hours until the hearing.
A cigarette caused a fire that burned a car owned by H. W. Clark of 2816 Graceland Rd on N. Mill St at about 4 40 p m yesterday, causing about 100 dollars in damage, according to city fireman report.
Retired four star Army General Willard G. Wyman died March 29 at Walter Reed Army Hospital at age 71. He served under Eisenhower in Normandy and held commands in World War II, Korea, and both world wars. Survived by wife Ethel, son Willard G. Wyman Jr., and daughters Mrs. Eugene T. Pinney of Berne Switzerland and Mrs. Nancy Geiger of Atlanta.
Tardy motorists have until midnight Thursday to obtain 1969 motor vehicle registration stickers. The three day extension was announced by state revenue Secretary Warner M. Depuy because post offices were closed today for Dwight D. Eisenhower. Affected are passenger cars, suburbans, station wagons, motorcycles, tractors and dealer registrations.
Rep Joshua Bilberg proposes a bill to require HEW to compute a yearly December cost of living increase and raise Social Security benefits by the same percentage starting in January. He notes the CPI rose 44 percent since February 1968, threatening fixed income recipients' living standards.
Rep. James A. Byrne urges direct federal grants to local school districts that show willingness to raise their own taxes. He argues block grants to states would be a mistake due to state governments' limited grasp of city problems, and that local grants preserve initiative and let local taxpayers share the burden.

James Million 27 of 805 Etna St is in fair condition at St. Francis Hospital after a head on crash with a utility pole and a parked car on West Washington St. Police say a hit by an oncoming vehicle forced Million into a parked car owned by David Becker, with $1,950 total damage.
