Pine trees topple onto homes and close roads in New Castle
Strong winds up to 60 mph uprooted trees across Lawrence County. Melva Pope watched a stately pine topple onto her house at 1014 McCleery Ave and a branch punched a hole in the roof. She sought shelter next door and remained uninjured. Another large pine near East Washington Street near VFW Post 315 was uprooted, pulling down power lines and closing that road section.

Shenango Scout Eagle project honors veterans with display cases
Alex Pindel, a Shenango High junior and Troop 746 member, built over 50 triangle shaped wooden display cases for folded flags to honor deceased veterans. He provided the cases to American Legion Post 157 Ellwood City for distribution to the boroughs four funeral homes, aiding families when military honors are limited.
