Eisenhower's condition described as severe by doctors

Doctors at Walter Reed said former President Dwight D. Eisenhower has severe congestive heart failure and a guarded prognosis after a recent crisis. The 78 year old, in intensive care, received oxygen as his wife Mamie and son John stayed nearby.

HUD seeks details on Pittsburgh workable program

Mayor Carl A. Cialella Jr says adjustments will be needed for Pittsburgh’s workable program after a final review with HUD district coordinator and Redevelopment Authority director William B. Patterson. HUD wants more detail on certain items before submission to the agency. The plan shows compliance in planning, code enforcement and zoning to qualify for federal urban renewal grants. It must win city council approval before final HUD submission. recertification every year will end after plan approval in 1971.

Budget request for New Castle city schools rises by half a million

The New Castle Area School Board reviewed a 1969 70 budget request of 6 587 243 up from the current 6 047 529. Business manager William E Thompson said tax hike prospects depend on state action as a bill seeks higher teacher salaries and subsidies. Real estate tax is 48 mills. next meeting set for April 2 to review the request.

U.S. seeks approval to hit Cambodian base camps

UPI reports the U.S. military requests Nixon's approval to strike about 12 North Vietnamese base camps inside Cambodia. Plans contemplate B52 bombing or large scale commando raids along the Cambodia South Vietnam border. Sources say action hinges on Hanoi’s use of Cambodian camps for offensives and Sihanouk’s recently softened stance on bombing.

Five-Day Ordeal Ends in Tragedy Near Los Alamos

Mrs. Elam 24 a nurse and mother of a seven month old baby endured five days in freezing forest near Los Alamos New Mexico walking barefoot in snow after her car bogged. She tried to reach safety while the baby died of dehydration and exposure and she was found exhausted by searchers. Her husband on emergency leave returned from Italy.
