Can a Man Kill His Wife and Then Come Into Possession of Her Estate
A South Sharon News item questions whether a husband who killed his wife can inherit her estate. John Simpson of Kittanning seeks to test the act’s constitutionality, arguing it may allow the spouse to claim both real and personal property, harming other heirs. The case involves Mrs. Hamilton G. Wright and the Wrights’ joint real estate, with her death by gunshot on February 2, 1897. Wright was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years. The administrator, Hoy Neville, plans to file final accounts at the April term, potentially transferring Mrs. Wright’s residual property to her husband per Commonwealth law.
