Argentine armed forces topple President Isabel Peron, forming a junta led by Jorge Videla. Peron is detained and flown to a southern resort. Senate Majority Leader Thomas Nolan of Allegheny introduces a bill to raise state fees by 48 million dollars across nine executive departments including Agriculture Education Transportation Revenue Health and the Liquor Control Board Milk Marketing Board and the Horse Racing Commission. The aim is to cover administrative costs of processing licenses and benefits.
The Public Utility Commission voted to suspend a 14.9 million dollar first step and 9.8 million second step rate increase for Peoples Natural Gas Co. Pittsburgh serving 300000 customers in 16 southwestern Pennsylvania counties until September 30. Five customers filed formal complaints about the proposed rise that would lift average residential bills by 1.49 dollars monthly.
