Washington reports an OPA rationing order frozen butter lard fats oils and margarine shortening cooking and salad oils for a week starting next Monday to prevent hoarding and panic. Meat cheeses and canned meats are rationed with War Ration Book 2 stamps to begin March 29.
London March 22 The world received a hopeful and optimistic vision from Prime Minister Winston Churchill about a better world after victory. He proposed police action against war guilt nations led by the United States Britain and Russia as Hitler’s legions are driven from Europe. He envisaged Asia after Japan is crushed and predicted Germany will be defeated by 1944 or 1945 at the latest. He pledged Britain will transfer military and naval strength to the Pacific to aid in defeating Japan while outlining a four year postwar reconstruction and signaling military revelations including a North Africa battle as the Eighth Army attacks the Mareth Line.
