The House Appropriations Committee voted a near one billion dollar cut in President Truman's 1951 budget. It approved 29.045 billion dollars in federal funding vs 30.613 billion requested, with further potential cuts possible during foreign aid deliberations.

State highway department calls for bids to construct a bridge over Neshannock creek as an extension of By-Pass Route 422. The span will run from Croton avenue extension on the Rosena furnace site to South Jefferson street near the Central Fire department to relieve downtown traffic.
Frances Cloyd, the former Mrs. America, filed for divorce from Arthur T. Cloyd in San Diego alleging extreme cruelty. She seeks custody of three children Tommy Terry and Patricia and reasonable alimony. The couple married in 1943 at Lufkin Texas.
The five month old quadruplets of Ossie Hargraves and his wife, residents of Sault Ste. Marie, are being offered for adoption due to financial hardship. Hargraves, a low income worker, said despite loving the babies they cannot afford feeding or clothing four children. He noted the city had pledged five thousand dollars for a home, but prices are too high to fix a shelter.

Mayor Haven praised the auxiliary s service to the community.
An unofficial low bid of 1 568 272 was filed by American Bridge Company for the Beaver river bridge superstructure on the western extension. The bid will be checked for compliance before award. Also Taller Cooper, Inc. of Brooklyn submitted 391 750 for 36 toll booths and 14 interchange plazas, the only bid.
A student mock congress at Westminster gym in New Wilmington defeated the Langer bill 178 to 90. The 435 representatives, drawn from the student body, will continue tonight and Wednesday to discuss bills and vote, including the Yount bill that would restrict advertising alcohol in interstate traffic.
Six inmates overpowered guard Ed Murdie and escaped in a pickup at Buena Vista’s Colorado State Reformatory. Warden James Thomas identified six youths: James McDonald 23 Sterling Leon C. McGeigh 18 Littleton John Benevides 19 Durango John Wood 18 Trinidad George Bailey 22 Fort Collins and Donald Mitchell 21 Berthoud as ringleader. They bound the guard after striking him with a lead pipe and seizing his riot gun and night stick.

A head on collision in Brockton near Rockford killed eight people in a car rollover and vehicle swerves with a gasoline tanker. Victims include a teenager and two babies. occupants identified as Ray Rinehart and family from Rockford. truck driver Willis Spring from Monticello Wisconsin not charged. Coroner investigation ongoing.
