Travelers from Russia report widespread peasant uprisings and grave labor discontent alarming the Soviet government. Clashes turn sanguinary with hundreds killed on both sides as Soviet troops are deployed to quell at least six insurrectionary movements in recent weeks.
Erie federal court sentenced Chester A. Hall to two years in Atlanta penitentiary and William J Powers to four months in Erie county jail after guilty pleas to narcotics charges. Russell Meyer, 18, from Cincinnati, got two years at Chillicothe for transporting a stolen auto into Pennsylvania. Meyer and three others were arrested near New Castle on February 13. the youths were placed on probation. William Nevins, a railway clerk, received five months in Cambria county jail for tampering with the mails and taking over five dollars from letters.
Last night the defense and two psychiatrists concluded testimony in Irene Schroeder's trial as prosecutors seek the electric chair. The jury will hear four remaining speeches before deliberation, with District Attorney Powers and Special Counsel Margiotti presenting for the commonwealth and Dickey Jarrett for the defense.

Frank Yarvorsky of Hickory township confessed to the February 12 Farrell poolroom murder of Frank Desilvio, 48, claiming involvement by Joe Mihalson. Police say both youths, among five Farrell teens arrested March 6 for forgery, were held on the case.

He will not conduct further glider experiments on the Pacific coast for months and plans to reach New York late March or April before a South American Pan-American tour.
Gulf Refining Company officials began clearing debris and estimating losses after a dramatic oil fire at Girard Point. Firemen fought explosions to protect warehouses tanks and tankers, with damage believed to reach millions while operations resumed at dawn.
