Western Pennsylvania Conservancy says it has proposed two new parks in the Allegheny River Valley and a “Park of the Islands” opposite the Allegheny National Forest. The plan includes 33,095 acres transferred to the state for five new state parks McConnells Mill Maraine Chiophyle Laurel Ridge and Oil Creek Valley.

At its 23rd annual convention in Houston, the Air Force Association adopted a resolution urging immediate resumption of bombing in North Vietnam. Gunman jailed on birthday in New Orleans hijacking case
Douglas Alton Dickey, 26, was jailed in New Orleans on air piracy charges after attempting to force a Las Vegas to New York jet to Cuba. FBI agents said he was deterred by fuel limits and a flight engineer explained refueling was needed. Deputy agents described wrestling the gunman to the floor as the plane landed in Atlanta.

92 Die As Soviet Jet Crashes Near Aswan Egypt
A Soviet made Ilyushin 18 of United Arab Airlines crashed on landing at Aswan Egypt killing 92 people. The plane carried 101 aboard including 94 Moslems pilgrims and seven crew. Fourteen survived but five later died in hospitals. The wreck blocked the runway and closed Aswan airport.
