The Philadelphia School District and 25 state districts sue 18 sugar firms in U S District Court for alleged price fixing before 1970. The action seeks treble damages and an injunction against the firms including Amstar Corp Borden Inc North American Sugar Industries Coloma Sugar Suglters Industrial Sugary and Sugar Refinery of Palm Beach.
HEW officials warned Kane Hospital, a county operated nursing facility in Pittsburgh, could lose federal Medicare and Medicaid funds this year totaling about 9 million dollars. Kane administrator Stephen Eenhardt said no word on a cut, while state health secretary Dr Leonard Bachman called a cutoff devastating and noted state funds may be required to cover the financing.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Martin Pulich set bail at 50000 for Wendy Yoshimura after sentencing her to state prison for ten years on a conspiracy charge and up to five years on each of two counts of bomb materials and an automatic weapon. The terms run concurrently and, with a July law, she could be released between 16 months and three years.

Daryl Casey, 20, of 428 Rutledge Ave Youngstown is held for grand jury action on kidnapping charges in the November 19 abduction of Anne Ryan from Towne Mall. Angelo Lattarelli, 20, of Boardasa has been indicted. Trial postponed pending Casey’s case. Ryan testified the suspects drove her, forced wine, and she identified Casey in a lineup and extradition hearing. Casey’s arrest followed fingerprint evidence on a wire bottle found in Lattarelli’s car.
In Hanoi a Vietnamese official and UPI reporters watched 12 black metal boxes bearing the names of Americans missing in Indochina War placed in the House of the Reposing Soul at Van Dien cemetery. UAW President Leonard Woodcock Rep. Sonny Montgomery and Charles Yost viewed the somber scene as diplomats discussed future transport and ceremonial plans.
Lawrence County Vo-Tech School Board approves adding 12 minutes to each of five periods through June 4 to make up 15 days missed by severe weather. Last day remains June 9 with a full day on June 10. Pending ratification by the Vocational Education Association.
NBC preempted The Tonight Show nationwide as NCAA regional basketball ran seven minutes over. A contract requires preemption for non news runovers, so Tomorrow aired in place. Carson’s fans were promised the Tonight segment would air later, as viewers flooded switchboards with calls.
