Curtis D. Wilbur chief justice of the California Supreme Court will be the new secretary of the navy succeeding Erwin Denby who resigned March 10 amid an oil leases probe. Wilbur, 56, a 1888 Naval Academy graduate who later chose law, will have his nomination sent to the Senate at once. He was born in Boonesboro Iowa and began law practice in Los Angeles after leaving the Navy.
