Neshannock 2A girls win WPIAL title over Serra Catholic
Neshannock High School captured its second WPIAL girls basketball championship in three years with a 54 44 win over Serra Catholic at North Allegheny. The Lady Lancers led 23 15 at halftime and 35 31 entering the fourth quarter to hold off a late rally. Coach Luann Grybowski earned her fifth WPIAL title as Neshannock advances to the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals.

Candidates Finalized for Municipal Offices in Lawrence County
Debbie Wachter reports that candidates have filed for the May 18 primary across Lawrence County's 27 municipalities. One six year supervisor seat per township is open, along with borough mayors, tax collectors, auditors, constables, and poll workers. Some towns may elect county Republican Committee members. where no candidates are listed, none exist for that race. The Lawrence County Board of Elections will conduct a draw.

Lawrence County Firefighters Battle Widespread Brush Fires
Fire crews across Lawrence County coped with wind driven brush and several house and barn fires during a dry spell. North Beaver Township were called Friday to a five acre tract at 607 Cleland Mill Road where a homeowner burned outdoors. Two fields burned as chief Paul Henry noted. On Wednesday five departments aided Enon Valley as water tankers and brush equipment operated amid multiple blazes including hay bale fires at 2207 Clark Road. Ed Nichol farm owner burned brush, two piles of round bales burned totaling about 175. Firefighters remained at the scene.

First responders to be offered COVID vaccine expansion
Governor Wolf announced expanded eligibility for the COVID vaccine to include first responders and front line workers such as grocery, meat plant, and farm staff. The plan aims to ensure all Phase 1A residents 65 plus and high risk individuals can schedule by month end, with initial Johnson & Johnson doses targeting school and child care workers and regional clinics later.
