Gar land Chain to Build Largest US Plant at East Moravia
W J Garland president of the Garland Chain company of Rankin, recently absorbed by the chain trust, buys hundreds of acres at East Moravia for a major chain manufacturing plant and a new town. The works will employ about 600 skilled workers, with streets graded sewers paved water works and 300 houses planned. A conduit factory in which Garland is heavily interested will also be located there. The Rankin plant was an experimental iron pipe conduit process proving successful amid rising demand.

Lieutenant Taylor Sworn Into Service
Jay Taylor of North Beaver township was sworn in as a second lieutenant in the regular army. The oath, administered by Clerk of Courts Ralph M. Campbell, followed War Department instructions from Washington. Taylor, a son of D. W. Butler County Farmer Murdered in Ax Attack
Special to The News. William Smith, an aged Saxonburg farmer in Butler County, was beaten to death with an ax by masked burglars who also beat his wife after midnight. The couple’s $20 cash and about $200 in valuables were taken as neighbors and Sheriff Hoon mounted a countywide search. The killers entered via a second story window and fled as dawn approached.

Wife Boss Of The House In Desertion Case
In a desertion case before Judge Wallace, Brunetta Walters testified that her husband Frank Walters was the boss of the house and gave little support. Walters, a hotel porter earning two dollars weekly, denied the charge and said his wife caused the breakups. The judge dismissed the case after ordering Walters return to Stoneboro and absolving the county of further costs.

Wahlville coal company miner Charles Fastnacht died after stepping near a railroad cut embankment and plunging eighty feet. His body lay on the track until a freight train passed, severing a leg. inquest found the incident accidental. Young boy injured in wagon wheel accident
The 6 year old son of David S. Jones of South Moravia street was hurt Tuesday evening while climbing into W H Fisher’s delivery wagon on Terrace avenue. The horse moved, his left foot jammed between wheel spokes, fracturing both bones below the knee and dislocating the knee. He remains in severe pain and may be unable to walk for weeks with possible permanent knee stiffness.
