Embracing Padre Pio at St Marys Church in New Castle
Holy Spirit parishioners marked a 19th century milestone as 1899 origins of Padre Pio's family history were recalled. The St Pio Foundation placed and blessed a full sized statue titled I Embrace You in Pietrelcina and brought a replica to New Castle for a Saturday Mass.

Relatives of Grazio Forgione recall the Padre Pio lineage as a Mass at St Marys Church unveiled a full sized statue replica from 2021 in Pietrelcina. Family members gathered at the Wabash Street home site of Pauline Forgione and welcomed Luciano Lamonarca of the St Pio Foundation who pledged to seek official records back in Pietrelcina.

Closed church to get new life in New Castle
A shuttered South Side church will become the Gussie M. Walker Community Outreach center an after school and recreation hub. The City Council approved a conditional use to move into the former St. Nicholas Church at Reynolds and South Mill streets buying the church lot and a connected house. The facility will be an indoor playground with classrooms and computer labs in the basement serving underprivileged children and broader communities.
