Fire destroys farmhouse housing assistant farm agent near Harlanburg
A nine room farmhouse four miles north of Harlanburg on Rt 19 burned yesterday afternoon. Walter L. Welker an assistant county agriculture extension agent and his family were away when the fire broke out. Firefighters from Scott Twp and New Wilmington spent about two and a half hours dousing the flames. An overheated chimney is blamed. The Welkers lost their furnishings which are insured and were renting the building from a Pittsburgh firm. Neighbors housed the family after the blaze.

CAPE CANAVERAL FLA UPI A near perfect space shot today sent a beach ball sized American satellite into orbit around the sun. Pioneer V weighs 94.8 pounds and will radio back data on radiation cosmic dust and magnetic fields from deep space. The three stage Thor Able rocket lifted at 8 02 am local time and reached about 25 000 miles per hour to escape Earth's gravity. Congress aims at moderate voting rights bill amid Senate fight
In Washington the Senate rejected a cloture motion 53 to 42 to end debate on civil rights, and voted 55 to 38 against the so called part three proposal giving the attorney general authority to seek injunctions in civil rights cases.
