Bulletin report from London says a Japanese invasion fleet moving toward Port Moresby New Guinea is being harassed by Royal Australian Air Force. An estimate claims about 120000 Japanese troops have landed on New Guinea.
The Brazilian government gave President Getulio Vargas authority to declare a state of war if needed as all Brazilian ships on the high seas are ordered to the nearest ports for armed convoy due to heavy losses to Axis submarines.
Canberra disclosed heavy R A A F raids against Japanese shipping off Sala maua near New Guinea. Four enemy ships were badly damaged and a warship suffered a direct bomb hit. Japanese planes raided Port Darwin but were driven off by anti aircraft fire.

Harold Dor ian Trevor the monocled murderer, once jailed for purse theft in 1896 and later a lifelong criminal, was executed at Wadsworth Prison today. Trevor, son of a Kensington couple with a privileged upbringing, began crime at age sixteen.

L. C. Black, head of the local center, announced the free tuition program offering about 27 technical courses, many tailored for war effort.
Firemen fought two blazes this day. At noon a fire at Joseph Withers's home on East Meyer Avenue Neshannock Township caused about 50 dollars in damage, starting in a bedroom corner and damaging a bed and closet. A later fire at NYA Center in Cunningham Park was caused by a heater placed near a wall. youths extinguished it before arrival, with about 5 dollars in damage.
London reports a British spokesman warning Japan may attack Ceylon soon as part of a plan to dominate the Indian Ocean. He notes Japanese control of sea and air after recent losses and says the Indian Ocean remains uncovered.

Washington March 11 the House Ways and Means committee asked the treasury for all available data on a general Federal retail sales tax to back proposals that the war be financed partly through this levy. Some members previously undecided were impressed by a New York State chamber suggestion for a victory sales tax with graduated rates from two to three percent on low cost essentials to 10 or 15 percent on high priced items.
United States destroyers reportedly sunk one Axis tanker off the eastern tip of Cuba with at least one more damaged. Unconfirmed reports reached Havana from sources described as well informed. Early accounts said five tankers including a 11000 ton ship and a large tanker with a cannon were attacked off Cape Maysi by three submarines.
