Intensive police hunt for the so called Hermit intensified as a sheep herder found a girl’s body on the coast. Authorities pursue leads linking the killer to the area.
National Commander Ralph Thomas O'Neil from Topeka Kansas arrives for the eighth national commanders banquet in the Cathedral. He, though ill with a recurrent pneumonia attack, plans to participate in the evening program after a day in seclusion at The Castletown. Virgil Kirkland a Gary high school football hero was found guilty of first degree murder in the Ravishment and killing of his 18 year old sweetheart Arlene Drayes. The jury sentenced him to life imprisonment at Michigan City State Penitentiary after a three and a half hour deliberation. The verdict was delivered after 8:30 pm in Valparaiso Indiana.
